In the medical field, a small device can be a lifesaver. When doctors need to stem blood flow during life-saving surgery, medical tubing and balloons are among the tiny tools they use. Mediballoon, recently rebranded to Medeologix, specializes in balloon design, development, and production.

“Our founder, Anant Hegde, has 40 years of experience in the industry,” said COO of Medeologix Shawn Davis. “He started from the very basic operator level, through technician, and then created his own business. His experience has grown up through the medical device industry, helping create all sorts of medical devices, but our focus is specifically around the balloons.”

The balloons serve two primary purposes: One is used with a catheter device and inserted into the artery system to open a closed vein or artery. The other blocks blood flow, allowing doctors to work on the other end during surgery.

According to Davis, their location at the Dowe Business Park in East Bay, Calif., has been instrumental in the production of the balloons and the tubing.

“For us, it's a very central location,” Davis said. “The business park has really great features that I think make it stand out, like the close location to 880 Freeway and quick access to the airports, Silicon Valley, and San Jose. It’s also central for employees who live in San Francisco. Some employees even come as far as Central Valley or South San Jose.”

Davis also says that a significant selling point for the building was working with Schnitzer Properties.

“Schnitzer Properties was really easy to work with from the get-go,” Davis said. “We have really good onsite property support, and dealing with Schnitzer Properties property management team has been efficient and easy. For us, it was probably luck that the property that we were going into just happened to have additional space opening, and since we were already in the midst of moving in, it was really that great timing. It worked out well that we chose that space to expand into.”
